Scientific Work

The Laboratory of Experimental Trauma Surgery investigates the basics and coherence of joint diseases and connective tissues. The search for explanations and solutions for clinical problems is carried out using different experimental approaches and in a multidisciplinary team

Our main focus is regenerative medicine of connective tissues.

Our main goal is to exploit the therapeutic potential of stem cells, by illuminating genetic programs and identifying specific signaling pathways that regulate stem cell functions.

Our projects focus on:

  • Tissue Engineering of hyaline cartilage and mensicus
  • Gene roles in tendon development, function and healing
  • Tissue Engineering of tendon and ligament
  • Hypertrophy of chondrogenically differentiated mesenchymal stem cells

In our research we use 2D and 3D cell culture as well as clinically relevant in vivo models to find new approaches to enhance the healing processes of injured joints and connective tissues.
